The four string trios, written during the first third of the last century, reveal the breadth of possibilities of this genre, comprising an elegant game with tradition (Dohnányi), the ideal of a systematic formation of impulsive music (Reger), and a pièce de résistance in virtuosity and colour by Ravel's contemporary Jean Cras.
