Maurice Ravel | Igor Stravinsky | Arthur Honegger

"Höhepunkt dieser Erstveröffentlichungen ist aber natürlich Markevitchs archaische Gangart in Strawinskys „Le sacre du printemps“. Und der historische Klang, der bei allen Hi-Fi-verwöhnten Ohren nervöses Zucken auslösen wird, ist hier nicht etwa Zeugnis einer vergangenen Epoche, sondern entpuppt sich in dieser ultra-modernen Interpretation als integraler und somit sinnstiftender Parameter." Igor Markevitch conducts Ravel, Stravinsky and Honegger

Also the second audite production with Igor Markevitch demonstrates his dedication to rhythmic precision and a transparent orchestral sound: Igor Stravinsky’s “Le Sacre du Printemps”, which had caused one of the greatest scandals in musical history at its première in 1913 by Serge Diaghilev’s “Ballets Russes” at the Paris Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, had remained a substantial challenge for any orchestra in the 1950s. Igor Markevitch was considered the most accomplished conductor of “Le Sacre” at the time for he, like no other, was able to master the rhythmical and technical complexities of this score.
The special relationship between the young RIAS Symphony Orchestra and Markevitch is also demonstrated by the immaculate and virtuoso interpretations of Ravel’s Second “Daphnis et Chloé” Suite and the Fifth Symphony by Arthur Honegger, which Markevitch introduced in Berlin less than a year after its world-première in Boston.

The production is part of our series „Legendary Recordings“ and bears the quality feature „1st Master Release“. This term stands for the excellent quality of archival productions at audite. For all historical publications at audite are based, without exception, on the original tapes from broadcasting archives. In general these are the original analogue tapes, which attain an astonishingly high quality, even measured by today‘s standards, with their tape speed of up to 76 cm/sec. The remastering – professionally competent and sensitively applied – also uncovers previously hidden details of the interpretations. Thus, a sound of superior quality results. CD publications based on private recordings from broadcasts cannot be compared with these.
