During the course of the twentieth century, the guitar was emancipated from its former role as a folkloristic instrument, finding ever more attention in so-called "serious music." More and more composers discovered the charm and attraction of its characteristic sound, which forms a clear contrast to that of almost all "classical" instruments - as to the fuller and softer sounding piano. The new CD with the Yamamoto Duo offers a wide panorama of new literature for guitar and piano - composers from the most varied cultural backgrounds bring in elements of their musical traditions in combination with the special sound characteristics of the guitar. They demonstrate the multi-facetted richness of this often underestimated instrument with these works, most of which receive their premiere recordings here. The Duo of Eriko and Naoto Yamamoto master the difficult dynamic balance as well as the unusual sounds of the new music with sensitivity and sovereignty.
