Beethoven dedicated the String Trios, Op. 9 to a noble patron of the arts, Count Johann Georg von Browne-Camus. The dedication obliged Beethoven to give an appropriate demonstration of his compositional ability. Although the trio genre of that time belongs to "light" society music of the courts Beethoven's works do indeed make considerable demands on players and listeners. The equality and technical sovereignty of the three instruments is a matter of course in the Trios, Op. 9, and realised with great artistic skill. Compositionally speaking, the Trios together form a three-movement cycle and, in their musical quality, are an exemplary model for this combination which has again been taken up by twentieth-century composers.
Beethoven makes use of all possibilities of compositional technique, thus robbing the genre of its divertimento-like innocence.

The Jacques Thibaud Trio was founded in Berlin in 1994. Since then its reputation has grown considerably. The Trio has won first prizes at chamber music competitions in Italy and Germany as well as a stipend from the German Music Council, and has collaborated with renowned artists. The ensemble members deserve special regard for having decided to perform chamber music by heart. The unique atmosphere resulting from this is also reflected in the present CD production.
