Biography

Viktoriia Vitrenko is a versatile Ukrainian soprano, conductor and artistic director. Vitrenko’s career has brought her to stages across Europe and beyond. Her debut album "Scenes" (2019, AUDITE) with chamber music by György Kurtág won the Supersonic Pizzicato Award and was nominated for the German Record Critics Award (PdSK-2019) and International Contemporary Music Awards 2020 (ICMA 2020).

In the 2022/2023 season Vitrenko is featured as a singer at the TRANSART Festival (IT), Contrasts Festival (UA), Musica Nova (DE) and makes her debut at the Opéra national de Lorraine (FR) as part of NOX - a laboratory for contemporary music theater, and at the Staatsoper Stuttgart/JOIN. As a conductor, she leads the Haydn Orchestra (IT), Münchener Symphoniker (DE) and returns to the Divertimento Ensemble (IT). As co-founder of the InterAKT Initiative, she develops and produces an inclusive music theater “Vox ex nihilo” and all-female* punk performance “Evil Women”. Finally, as Artist-in-residence at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart (February - September 2023), she collaborates with international artists from various disciplines and releases her debut solo album "LIMBO" on vinyl on the brand new Ukrainian label "UKHO".

As a singer, she performed at the National Opera of Ukraine and at the Opera Forward Festival in the Netherlands. Further appearances include at NOW! Festival, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, No- vember Music, R-E-M Festival, EM-Visia, ECLAT Festival and at the concert stages of Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and Dortmund Konzerthaus.

As a conductor, she led the Haydn Orchestra (Italy), Landesjugendensemble für Neue Musik Baden-Württemberg, the Divertimento Ensemble (Italy), Pforzheim Chamber Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Stuttgart Philharmonic, among others.

As part of the DIRIGENTENFORUM she conducted the Philarmonic Choir Berlin, the Choir of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the NDR Rundfunkchor, the Rundfunkchor Berlin. In addition, took over as choral conductor for the production of "Alice in Wonderland" at the Staatstheater Stuttgart and
a world premiere with the Deutsche Kammerchor for the Donaueschinger Musiktage.

Viktoriia Vitrenko is also co-founder of the InterAKT Initiative, an independent group of interdisciplinary artists based in Stuttgart, and the group Mixed Sound Personnel for voice, percussion and electronics.

In 2020/21 she was artist-in-residence at the "Cité internationale des arts" in Paris. 2023 she is artist-in-residence at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. Viktoriia Vitrenko is based in Berlin.
